Bomb defused in Mardan

MARDAN, June 20 Police on Saturday foiled an attempt to blow up a checkpost at Rustam and defused a 10kg explosive device, sources said.

Unidentified miscreants had planted the improvised explosive device to blow up the Jalalabad police post at Rustam in the small hours of Saturday. However, the police took a prompt action and opened firing on the miscreants who escaped from the area. Sources said that one of the miscreants trying to plant the bomb was injured in the firing. But, he also escaped with the others. The police, later, defused the bomb.

On Tuesday, the militants had attacked a police post at Baizai Kharki in which two constables were killed while three others, including ASI Falak Sher, had sustained injuries.—Correspondent
