KARACHI, July 10: Siemens Information Communication Networks has been awarded two ordered from Telephone Industries of Pakistan (TIP), worth around 12 million euros, for turnkey delivery of its EWSD switching technology and management system — NetManager — to Pakistani network operator PTCL.

The delivery also includes latest EWSD software version, which already meets requirements for introducing Surpass convergence technology, says a press release issued here on Wednesday.

In second step, the network of PTCL is to be then upgraded to Surpass technology standard. With this technology from Siemens, PTCL wants to offer its customers NGN services (Next Generation Network) such as VoIP and ISS (Internet Supplementary Services), as well as broadband services.

Over 50 per cent of the telephone network in Pakistan, totalling around four-and-a-half million telephone lines uses Siemens EWSD technology.
