10 die in Gilgit accident

GILGIT, May 17 Ten persons died while a child remained unhurt when a vehicle they were onboard fell into a deep ravine at Chorbat point of Kargah Nullah, police said here on Sunday.

The accident happened when two families were returning from a picnic trip to the tourist spot of Kargah. The driver lost control over the vehicle and it plunged into the ravine.

Local volunteers, workers of the Public Works Department and police personnel reportedly retrieved bodies of deceased.

Police said eight victims belonged to the same family. However, a minor miraculously remained unhurt who was taken home. The deceased included Suhrab, Fatima, Zainab and Karim Khan.

When contacted the emergency department of the DHQ Hospital in Gilgit, Dr Jamshid told this scribe that they had received seven bodies.
