KOHAT, April 24 Security forces will use state-of-the-art gadgets to jam transmissions of mobile FM radio stations operated by the Tehrik-i-Taliban in Darra Adamkhel.

A highly-placed source told Dawn on Friday the mobile FM radio stations operated by the Taliban could not be traced because they were mobile and the setup was so small that it could be easily put in a briefcase. He said the Taliban used to spread terror and harass people through these channels and broadcast propaganda against the security forces and the government by giving wrong figures of casualties in the continuing battle.The security forces had seized and destroyed many FM stations established in houses during operations in Darra Adamkhel, but they could not trace the mobile channels.

The transmissions of a channel operated by Darra Taliban commander Tariq Afridi would be jammed in a couple of days, the source said.

The channel has been broadcasting speeches of the commander from 9pm to 11pm for several months. Through this channel, he has also been threatening tribesmen with dire consequences if they raised a lashkar or helped the government against the Taliban in any form.

RETALIATED Security forces retaliated when militants fired on the Akhorwal checkpost in Darra Adamkhel on Thursday night. The militants had attacked the checkpost with mortars and claimed to have killed five security men.

But, when contacted, the forces denied the killing of the security men. The security forces continued air and artillery attack on suspected hideouts of militants in the Bazidkhel area of Dara Adamkhel for the fifth day on Friday. The death toll in the strikes rose to 28 on Thursday.

The jets also targeted the Balizai area of lower Orakzai Agency where a tribesman, Rehman Shah, was killed. In the bombardment over the nearby mountains of Shawaz, at least four militants were killed, sources said.

ARRESTED The Cantonment police arrested two suspected militants and seized a 10kg time-bomb from their hideout in Miangan Colony near the PAF base on Friday.

The action was taken after police received information that two suspects belonging to the Tehrik-i-Taliban, Orakzai, had recently settled in Kohat and were planning an attack on the PAF base.

Police along with the bomb disposal squad raided a house in Miangan Colony and arrested Zeri Gul and his son Lal Farooq and seized the bomb.
