NAWABSHAH, April 24 The district government after receiving several complaints held a meeting on Friday regarding shifting transport stands to the city outskirts.

The meeting was presided over by the acting District Nazim Abdul Haq Jamali and attended among others by Coordinator to MNA Faryal Talpur, Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, DCO Khursheed Naeem Malik and Taluka Nazim Nawabshah Abdul Rauf Khan.

Ziaul Hassan Lanjar told the meeting that the district administration was constantly receiving complaints regarding troubles faced by people because of the transport offices in the city. The increasing number of vehicles were causing severe traffic jams while school going children, pedestrians, businessmen and citizens face hardships due to these stands, he said.

President Transport Union, Sufi Mohammad Saleem said that all stands were shifted to city outskirts with a promise to provide us an alternate place which was yet not honoured.

Transporters were paying huge sums in the shape of parking fee to municipal administration since long but no facilities till date could be provided to us, he said.

Earlier, we were called back by the administration as commuters faced problems in the absence of transport in the city he said adding that we are ready to march out if new terminal was made available.

Another office-bearer of Transport Union Rao Saif said that the district administration mishandled the situation by forcing transporters to shift without proper alternative.

Syed Sajjad Shah said that transporters would move if inter-city transport service was provided to commuters to reach the terminal.

Transporters Saalim Zardari contending their presence said that they were providing cheaper rates to commuters of Tando Adam. He too, contested the same stance of providing a terminal with all facilities.

Taluka Nazim Abdul Rauf Khan said that the parking fee had nothing to do with the provision of new bus terminal while contractors were not paying them any money for which an FIR had been lodged against them

He said that the TMA had proposed to shift stands at Naya Naka.

DCO Khursheed Naeem Malik said that the administration had decided to start inter-city transport service as it would facilitate commuters to reach their respective terminals.

Acting Zila Nazim Abdul Haq Jamali said that the decision to shift stands was intact and the district administration would expedite work to provide new bus terminal to transporters and start inter-city bus service.

It may be mentioned here that transport stands to Karachi and Hyderabad were shifted outside the city on Thursday after which some went on strike causing trouble for commuters travelling to Karachi, Hyderabad and other destinations.
