MINGORA, April 16 A `peace rally` was held in the violence-ravaged Swat valley on Thursday to celebrate the enforcement of Nizam-i-Adl in Malakand region.

The Qaumi Amn Jirga had given a call for holding the rally. More than 100 vehicles took part in the peace rally, which started from Knaju Chowk and after passing through various roads of Matta, Khwazakhela, Charbagh reached Mingora and from where it headed towards Barikot, Landaki Shamozai, Kabal and Shah Dheri.

The participants of the peace rally, displaying white flags on their vehicles, were chanting slogans in favour of Islamic Sharia, peace and against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and its chief Altaf Hussain for abstaining from voting in the National Assembly in favour of Nizam-i-Adl Regulation.

Addressing the rally, the chief of Qaumi Amn Jirga, Inamur Rehman said that people of Swat were thankful to President Zadari and federal government for approving the draft of Nizam-i-Adl, which was their long standing demand. He termed the new judicial system a gift from the president and prime minister to the people of the region.

He also came hard on the leadership of MQM, saying they proved themselves anti-Pakhtuns and anti-Muslims through their act. He said the people of Swat would now concentrate on the imposition of the regulation to restore durable peace in the violence-ravaged valley. The rally was also addressed by Bahri Karam, Karimul Hadi, Rehman Bahadar, Sabihur Rehman, Mohammad Iqbal, Advocate Peroz Shah, Gul Mohammad and Sultan Rome.
