ISLAMABAD, April 13 Hundreds of sacked employees of United Bank Limited (UBL) on Monday staged a demonstration seeking reinstatement.

The protesters started the march from National Press Club and ended it in front of the Parliament House where they staged a sit-in for some time.

The UBL employees had been dismissed in 1997.

Speaking on the occasion, Central Action Committee Chairman Mohammad Anwar said sacked employees of other organisations had been reinstated but those of the UBL were still waiting for their services to be restored.

He said late former prime minister Benazir Bhutto had promised that all sacked employees would be restored but the PPP-led government had failed to do so.

“Today, PPP is in power but the promise of Benazir Bhutto remains unfulfilled,” the speakers said.

The protesters said they had been passing through difficult time for the last 12 years, and warned that they would continue their protest till all the sacked employees were restored.

Those who spoke on the occasion included committee members Malik Mohammad Hussain, Azhar Iqbal, Azhar Qureshi and Javed Gul.
