MIANWALI The Musakhel police have arrested a 60-year-old groom and nikah khawan in a vani case and sent the teenaged bride to Darul Amaan while her father fled.

Around 12 years ago, younger brother of the groom Talah Khan, of Suleman Khel, Wana, was killed by Sherdad Khan, father of Toor Khan, of the same area.

A jirga headed by Pir Qasim Agha decided that infant Darkho Bibi, the granddaughter of murder suspect, would be given as compensation (vani) to 48-year-old Talah Khan.

Meanwhile, both the families moved to Punjab and Talah Khan settled in Faisalabad while Toor Khan settled in Mauza Bazar in Musakhel police precincts.

Few days ago, 60-year-old Talah Khan approached Toor Khan to comply with the 12-year-old jirga verdict.

Last week, Talah Khan, the father of six including one married son, reached Bazar along with wedding procession, contacted nikah with 14-year-old Darkho and took her to Faisalabad. Haji Ghulam Nabi solemnised the nikah orally.

Locals informed this to District Police Officer Akbar Nasir Khan who directed his subordinates to take action under Section 310-A of the Pakistan Penal Code.

The police brought the couple from Faisalabad and arrested the nikah khawn from Bazar village.

Talking to reporters on Friday, the DPO said that no body was above the law and action would be taken against all those who flouted the law.

Talking to Dawn, the nikah khawan said every Muslim was allowed to have four wives at a time and had not violated the Islamic law. The 60-year-old said his wife was satisfied with him.
