LAHORE, March 17 Wapda, Army and Police won their respective matches on the first day of the 44th National Volleyball Championship at the Wapda Sports Complex on Tuesday.

Defending champions Wapda, outclassed Navy 3-0.

In the first set, Wapda struggled to win with a close margin 28-26, but won the second set rather easily 25-20 to double the lead. Though seamen showed improved performance in the third set they lost 26-24.

Earlier, Army thrashed Azad Jammu Kashmir in straight sets 25-10, 25-8, 25-12.

Army were far better in their smashing and blocking as lowly-rated AJK could not create problems for them throughout the proceedings.

In the third match of the day Police also carved out an easy victory against Higher Education Commission (HEC) 25-12, 25-13, 25-20.

Three matches will be played on Wednesday. While Navy will take on Railways, Pakistan Ordnance Factory (POF) will play against HEC and Pakistan Air Force will clash against AJK.
