HYDERABAD, Jan 23 A non-governmental organisation, Association for Betterment and Development of Human Being (ABAD), at a consultative meeting has decided to appoint a “district committee for women`s rights” in Hyderabad, which will investigate cases of violence against women and find out measures for their elimination.

Speaking on the occasion, the executive director of the ABAD, Rafiya Bangash advocate, said that for the last many years, the association had been providing advisory and legal help to the women and children who had been subjected to violence.

She stressed the need for appointing a district committee for the protection of women`s rights in Hyderabad, which would include lawyers, elected representatives, welfare organisations, journalists and government representatives.She said that the committee in question would investigate and identify the cases of violence against women and formulate a strategy to eliminate the menace.

Highlighting the aim of the committee, Manzoor Baloch said that the committee would not only identify and investigate cases of violence against women but would also identify other social problems confronting women as well as impart training to women about their rights.

Zafar Rajput advocate, Mustafa Baloch and Qutbuddin Dars also spoke.

LUMHS The vice-chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Prof Noshad Ahmed Shaikh, said that with the cooperation of the medical superintendent of the Liaquat University Hospital, all facilities were being provided to the patients and presence of professors and associate professors had been ensured in all the wards of the hospital.

He stated this during his visit to different wards, operation theatres and seminar hall, Hyderabad branch, here on Friday. He was accompanied by Medical Superintendent Dr Abdul Jabbar Shaikh.

He also distributed certificates among postgraduate students who had completed their technical courses in gynaecology and obstetrics. He also gave appreciation certificates to outside supervisor Dr Musarrat and Prof Pushpa Srichand.

ANNIVERSARY Tributes were paid to the noted research scholar, folk literature expert and teacher, late Shaikh Mohammad Ismail, at his 5th death anniversary held at the Sindhi Adabi Board here on Friday.

Those who eulogised the services of the late scholar included the vice-chairman of the board, Shaikh Aziz, Prof Syed Zawar Hussain Naqvi, Nafees Ahmed Shaikh, Najma Panhwar and others.
