KARACHI, June 19: An elderly man was killed by his nephew over a domestic dispute in Malir, late on Tuesday night.

Police said that Sattar Khan, aged 25, attacked his uncle, Nisar Khan, aged 65, with an axe during a quarrel pertaining to a domestic dispute in his house in Mohammadi Colony, Khokhrapar.

The suspect escaped from the house after the attack, police said.

The victim was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for treatment where he was pronounced dead by the medicolegal officer.

The victim’s daughter, Mobina Begum, suffered injuries while trying to save her father.

SHOOTOUT: Four suspected bandits were injured in two separate shootouts with the police in different parts of the city on Wednesday.

Two suspected dacoits were injured in what police claimed was an encounter with dacoits in Shershah on Wednesday morning.

Police said that three armed men barged into the house of Assistant Prof, Mohammad Iqbal, of the Government Technical College, Shershah.

Meanwhile, a neighbour informed the police on 15 and a police mobile from the Site police station reached the spot.

Following the arrival of the police, the dacoits opened fire at the police while trying to escape.

The police returned their fire, injuring two of the dacoits identified as Shahzeb, 30, and Tariq Shah, 25.

The third suspected dacoit identified as Zafar escaped.

Both the injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment, police added. Police also claimed to have recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

In another incident, two suspected bandits were injured by police firing in Sir Syed Town.

According to reports, three suspects were passing near the National Savings Centre situated on Shah Waliullah Road when the Police signalled them to stop. The suspects started firing at the police and tried to flee on foot, police said.

The police returned fire, wounding two suspects identified as Syed Shahid Ali, aged 30, and Javed alias Juma. Their accomplice identified as Manzoor, hailing from Punjab, escaped.

During initial interrogation, Shahid and Javed told the police that their modus operandi was to strike a house during the daytime when there were only women at home. They tied the family with ropes and looted cash and jewellery.

The injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital under police custody.

KILLED: An infant was killed by her paternal uncle in New Karachi on Tuesday night.

Police said that suspect Mohammad Asif entered the victim’s house in Sector 11-L, New Karachi, and stabbed one-year-old Rija in the abdomen.

After the killing, the suspect escaped from the house.

Police said that the motive behind the killing could not be ascertained.

Police said that the victim was reported to be suffering from mental illness.

Till the filing of this report, the suspect was still absconding.
