KARACHI, June 17: The cleaning of a main drain along Sharea Faisal, which has remained choked due to negligence of the concerned agencies for the last one decade, has been taken up by the city government.

According to a member of the city government, Mehfoozun Nabi, work has been initiated by Union Council 8 with the assistance of Korangi Town although UC-8 falls under the jurisdiction of another Town.

It shows how the task of undertaking works of public benefit can be achieved in liaison with relevant circles despite resource constraints.

People of UCs 8 and 6 have been facing the problem of sewerage and rain water disposal for a long time as all the nullahs from these areas are connected to this main stormwater drain which has remained almost non-functional over the period.

The section of the main drain to be cleansed starts from the junction of Mubarak Shaheed Road and Sharea Faisal and goes up to Sharea Faisal and Shahrah-i-Qaideen junction.—APP
