LAHORE, May 06 (PPI) Four teams will vie for top honour when National Departmental Handball Championship 2008 will commence at Railway Stadium, Garhi Shahue on Thursday. Pakistan Railways Sports Board is organising the three-day event in which top handball players of four departmental teams including, Pakistan Army, Pakistan WAPDA, Pakistan Police and Pakistan Railways participate.

“We want to generate handball activity in Pakistan and South Asian Under-17 Handball Championship last year showed our planning and dedication to give handball a healthy status among the sports under Pakistan Olympic Association. It was a successful event where Pakistan was champion while other teams were from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal,” said Abid who is also President, Pakistan Amateur Handball Federation (PAHF).
“PAHF has chalked out a comprehensive strategy to participate and win medals in various international events this year. Pakistan will host the South Asian Handball Championship this year, while the Pakistani team will also participate in the third World Beach Handball Championships, which are to take place from 9 to 13 July 2008 at Cadiz, Spain,” he added.
