KARACHI, Oct 30: A five-year-old girl died in mysterious circumstances in Mehmoodabad on Tuesday.

Police said Rehana went out of her house to play in the evening. She returned complaining of stomach pain and died before she could be taken to a doctor. Police said, sensing some foul play, the girl’s parents reported the matter to police.

The body was sent to JPMC for post-mortem to determine the cause of death. According to a medicolegal officer, the girl had bruises on her face and thighs.

A duty officer at Mehmoodabad police station said the girl might have died a natural death. But things would be clear after autopsy and histopathological reports were received, he added.

However, Edhi source said they had received information that the girl was throttled to death.

CARJACKING: Eight vehicles — three cars and four motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in the city, police said.

The cars were stolen in Mahmoodabad, Ferozabad and Aziz Bhatti.

The motorcycles were hijacked in North Nazimabad (two), Aziz Bhatti and Sir Syed Town.

Police also claimed on Tuesday to have recovered three vehicles in the city.

INJURED: Three men were injured when a gas cylinder burst in a school in Lyari. Police said that the three men were preparing tea for the staff members of Baloch Government Secondary School on Faqir Mohammed Khan Road in Lyari when a small-size gas cylinder burst. The injured were Majid, Rehan and Mohammed Shabbir. They were from the clerical staff of the school. They had been admitted to Civil Hospital.
