KARACHI, Oct 30: The first desalination plant in the country based on the most advanced technology and producing daily one million gallons daily of drinking water and 30 megawatts of power daily would be set up in the Defence Housing Authority.

Disclosing this, Brig Asif Ghazali, the incoming administrator of the DHA, said it would be established on a BOT (build, operate and transfer) basis. The twin-product plant would be set up in a shortest possible time and the water and power provided by it would be highly cost-effective for the residents of DHA.

The DHA administrator said this at a dinner hosted by the Defence Residents Society, led by Zafar Iqbal as its president, in the DHA Central Library, says a press release.

Brig Ghazali said similar environment-friendly projects would be launched by the DHA in future.

Brig Abrar Hussain, the outgoing administrator, in his address expressed the hope that the DRS would continue to maintain a liasion with the incoming administrator.
