LAHORE, June 6: The afternoon session of the national  training camp could not be held as the water sprinkler system of the National Hockey Stadium ground was out of order Thursday.

The camp has been set up to pick Pakistan team for a July 12-20 tour of Spain and later for the Commonwealth Games to be held at Manchester from July 25.

All 30 probables of the camp passed the afternoon playing cricket at the NHS.

The ground staff were trying to remove the fault, but their efforts were ineffective till the evening.

The system hopefully would start working from Friday, the manager and camp-commandant Lt. Col (retd.) Zafar Ali Khan said.

Meanwhile, six electric poles have been established at the NHS main ground to hold the second session late Friday evening.

The decision has been taken by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) to avoid injury problems to the players due to the hot weather in the city.

A number of injuries in the first phase of the camp, due to the extreme weather had forced the PHF to conclude the training camp on May 18.

Lt. Col. (retd.) Zafar said that from Friday the evening session would begin at 7.30pm daily.

In all, 31 probables were selected for the training camp. One probable Waseem Ahmed is missing the camp as he is playing league hockey in Germany. He is expected to join the camp Monday.
