KARACHI, April 5: More than 35 South Asian editors and journalists, representing the indigenous print media from across the region, will attend a conference here on April 6-7 under the aegis of the South Asian Editors Forum (SAEF).

Federal Information Minister Nisar Memon will address the inaugural session on Saturday.

Editors and journalists from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, the Maldives and Sri Lanka will discuss the role of indigenous language print media.

The conference, entitled ‘Newspapers and magazine in the indigenous languages of South Asia: bridges or barriers’, seeks to examine challenges of promoting collective regional approaches to peace and cooperation even as internal, bilateral and regional tensions continue in South Asia. SAEF earlier has held conferences in Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.

“This is the first time that eminent editors representing the indigenous print media of South Asia are gathering in Pakistan”, said SAEF President Mohammad Aslam Kazi, who is also editor-in-chief of Kawish newspaper.

The South Asian Media Association, the Institute for Media, Policy and Civil Society of Canada and the International Centre for Peace Initiatives, New Delhi, are supporting the conference.—PPI
