PO shot dead, cop hurt in shootout

GUJRAT, Feb 22: A proclaimed offender was shot dead while a constable sustained injuries in an hour long encounter near Nihal, Sarai Alamgir, some 55km from here, on Friday.

On a tip-off, the police team raided the outhouse where PO Maqsood and his three accomplices had taken refuge, police spokesman told Dawn. He said the culprits resorted to firing when asked to surrender and it was returned.

Maqsood was shot dead while constable Mehdi Shah sustained injuries, he said, adding the accomplices managed to escape.

The deceased was wanted by police in several cases, the spokesman concluded.
