KARACHI: Two men commit suicide

KARACHI, Nov 19: Two men committed suicide in the city on Monday.

A man, who had been jobless for the past several months, committed suicide in his house in Orangabad, Paposhnagar. Police said Mohammed Tayyab, aged 40, father of several children, hanged himself from a ceiling fan in his house.

Quoting the family, police said Tayyab killed himself because of joblessness. The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

A young man hanged himself at his workplace in Korangi Industrial Area. Police said Gulabuddin, aged 30, hanged himself with a rope on the premises of a factory where he was employed.

Police said Gulabuddin was an Afghan national. The cause of suicide could not be ascertained immediately, police added.

ACCIDENTS: Reckless driving claimed two lives in the city.

A woman died in a road accident in Defence in the night. Police said Raisa, aged 55, was travelling on a motorcycle with her husband, Fazalur Rahman, when they were hit by a water tanker (PRJ-5158) near the Kala Pul traffic intersection. The injured couple was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where the woman died. Police claimed to have arrested the driver of the tanker and impounded the tanker.

A young man was run over by a passenger coach in Sachal area. Police said Mohammedullah, aged 17, a conductor of a minibus of route G-7, was doing repair work under his minibus in Mohammed Khan goth, when he was run over by a coach (JE-3269). The driver of the coach escaped.

Police said the dead man was an Afghan national, and he lived in a refugee camp.

A 55-year-old man was crushed to death beneath the wheels of a train in Bin Qasim area. Police said Kalay Khan was run over by Karachi Express. The dead man’s ID card showed that he was an employee of the KDA. The body was sent to the JPMC for autopsy.

FALLS TO DEATH: A young labourer died when he fell from a ship in Gadani while working on the ship. Hospital sources said Mohammed Younus, aged 35, was working on a ship which was being broken for scrap at Gadani shipbreaking yard. He died on the spot. The body was sent to Civil Hospital for post-mortem.

A young labourer died when a brick fell on him on an underconstruction factory premises in Site. Police said Shamsuddin, aged 28, was inside a washroom when a brick fell on his head. He was rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
