JAIPUR, Oct 14: India will not compromise in a sponsorship row with the International Cricket Council (ICC), Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) vice-president Lalit Modi said on Saturday.

The BCCI, which has its own commercial deals worth $1 billion, refused last month to sign the ICC Members Playing Agreement (MPA) over long-term sponsorship for the world governing body.

“We are not going to compromise on the MPA,” Modi said. “We will not be forced to sign an MPA that doesn't work.”

Modi, who heads the board's marketing panel, said many of the issues in dispute were peculiar to India and the sub-continent.

“It is not the big picture,” he said. “When you look at a micro level, we face several problems in the day-to-day working.

“How to address catering, accreditation, security, all unique to the sub-continent. They have not satisfactorily handled them.

“These issues have come up because the ICC are in a hurry to sign the MPA. We speak our mind. We've nothing to hide.”—Reuters
