Karachi, Oct 14: Although the city government claims that a fumigation drive in different parts of Karachi is being carried out by its vector control wing, it has been neglecting hospitals, where patients and other people are most vulnerable to the diseases and viruses being spread by mosquitoes.

As conditions at public sector hospitals, especially the Civil Hospital Karachi and JPMC,

are not exemplary, there is a dire need for conducting fumigation forthwith, and regularly in the weeks to come, in order to ensure prevention and cure amid the threat from the Viral Hemorrhagic Fever (VHF).

Accumulated drain water can be seen standing on the roads around both the major hospitals due to the apathy of the civic authorities.

These ponds of filthy water subsequently turn into breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other insects.

While it is common tendency that we always seem to be leaving something around that collects a little rainfall and makes a perfect habitat for zillions of mosquito eggs in hospitals, particularly in residential areas.

As defence system of patients in hospitals is already disable to resist against diseases, patients could fall prey easily to these lethal mosquitoes.

An official of Health department, Dr Tariq, said that fumigation in hospitals was on the list. He, however, expressed his inability to suggest an ideal time-schedule for the fumigation to be undertaken in the hospitals.

So far, the city government has carried out fumigation in every town thrice this year but no with a remarkable result.

Medical experts have already underscored the need of an

aerial anti-insecticide spray to wipe out the growing mosquitoes which have been causing VHF and dengue fever and turning them into an epidemic.—PPI
