KARACHI: Govt’s claim refuted

Published April 30, 2005

KARACHI, April 29: The Pakistan People’s Party on Friday said that PML chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain’s claim that all PPP workers arrested in Punjab had been released was wrong as several hundred of them were still languishing in different jails in Punjab and facing inhuman conditions.

In a joint press statement released from Bilawal House, several PPP leaders said that the way the ‘Chaudhry administration’ had treated PPP workers had exposed their real face. They said that the administration had agonized the people of entire Pakistan by implicating PPP workers in terrorism cases.

PPP’s Information Secretary Taj Haider and MNAs Nawab Yousuf Talpur and Mir Aijaz Jakhrani pointed out that senior leaders were running from pillar to post in Punjab to get the interned workers released from prisons, but the regime was obstructing their way.

The PPP leaders demanded immediate release of all the party workers.
