KARACHI, March 2: Despite promises made by Sindh Transport Minister regarding voluntary abolition of token system by bus, minibus and coach owners, the transporters still flout all rules and regulations and commitments made by them in this regard.

It is still unclear whether the minister has been cheated by the transporters or he, siding with transporters, is not taking the issue seriously.

The buses, minibus and coaches, plying almost on all the city routes, are being operated under the token system, according to which a driver recklessly drives his vehicle to reach a specific point a few kilometres away from his bus stand, and from there the vehicle moves on at a snail’s pace.

When this reporter asked a few coach-owners about abolition of the system, citing news reports, they refuted the news and said “how could we operate without taking the token. If we do away with this system, there will be clashes among drivers of buses and coaches of the same route.”

Sindh Transport Minister Adil Siddiqui, after a meeting with transporters, had announced elimination of the token system by the transporters.—PPI
