PESHAWAR, June 4: A single bench of the Peshawar High Court on Monday directed the principal of Edwardes College to file his comments in reply to a contempt of court plea within two days.

The bench, comprising Justice Nasirul Mulk, fixed June 7 for the next hearing. Advocate Nisar Ahmad appeared for the management of the college and Bashir Khan Tanghi represented the applicant, Junaid Majeed, a student of the college.

The applicant has claimed that the principal, Canon Huw Thomas, violated an interim order of the high court, issued in his favour.

The applicant was studying in Ist year at the college but the administration declined to send his examination form to the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education on the grounds of short attendance. He filed a civil suit before a civil judge and was granted interim relief by the court. However, the college’s administration filed an appeal before the court of additional district and sessions judge, which set aside the  order of the subordinate court.

The student then filed an application before the high court. A single bench allowed him interim relief on May 29 and ordered the college to send his form to the board. The applicant claimed that the administration sent incomplete form without attestation to the board.

Nisar Ahmad contended before the court that the principal had followed the court’s order and sent the form  to the board.

The complainant’s counsel stated that due to the arrogance of the principal the student could not appear in two of his examination papers.
