PESHAWAR, June 4: Gandhara Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Chairman Prof Dr Mohammad Kabir has offered to serve poor patients at the government’s neglected basic health unit (BHU) in the Palosai village near here.

“We are ready to provide doctors, paramedical staff and other required infrastructure to serve more than 25,000 people of the area,” said Dr Kabir, while inaugurating a one-day free medical camp on Tuesday.

He said he would provide a team of senior doctors, nurses and paramedics of the Naseer Teaching Hospital, Sardar Begum Dental College and Farhanda Institute of Nursing at the BHU to provide free health care to the poor.

Dr Kabir said the GIMS management was ready to help the government provide health care facilities to the people of the province.

Doctors at the camp examined around 1,000 patients and provided them with free medicines. The team of doctors included gynaecologists, surgeons, physicians, ophthalmologists and paediatricians, who examined most of the patients on the spot, while those afflicted with chronic ailments, were sent to the Naseer Teaching Hospital for admission.
