THATTA, Feb 6: The National Commission for Human Development will launch a programme in collaboration with the Sindh health department in four districts of the province to control infant mortality caused by dehyderation and diarrhoea.

This was announced here on Saturday by Sindh additional health secretary Shafqat Abbasi at the concluding session of a four-day training workshop organized by the NCHD.

He said the rural population, in particular, suffered from dehydration, adding that people in rural areas had to consume contaminated water because there was a shortage of clean drinking water.

He said uneducated women in the interior of Sindh did not know remedial measures, including use of ORS. He stressed the need for imparting health education to the rural population to overcome the problem.

Sindh NCHD senior general manager Brig Kamran said under the programme, 757 trainers would conduct door-to-door visits in villages of Thatta, Badin, Ghotki and Naushahro Feroze districts and provide three-month training in preventive and curative measures to 849,994 mothers.

He claimed that 92 per cent women in Sindh either died or faced post-natal problems due to non-availability of health facilities and poverty.

Dr Moazzam, Dr Mumtaz Brohi, Dr Aqsa, Dr Asmat, Hafeezullah Abbasi and others also spoke on the occasion.

INJURED: Syed Qaim Ali Shah, younger brother of Ali Behar Union Council Nazim Syed Naseer Shah, was shot and injured by three persons at a musical show organized by a private TV channel at the Makli stadium early Saturday morning.
