DADU, Dec 4: Biopsies of two children who were diagnosed with polio here on Saturday will be conducted in a laboratory in Islamabad for confirmation.

The children, Imran, 5, son of Subhan Qambrani, and Ghaffar, 12, son of Shafi Mohammad Solangi, both residents of Moundar Naka area, were brought to the Dadu Civil Hospital by their parents for treatment.

The district in charge of the polio campaign, Dr Zahid Hussain, told journalists the two boys were paralysed and they would be officially declared as polio cases after receiving biopsy reports from Islamabad.

The in charge of the hospital's children ward, Dr Mohammad Nawaz Khokhar, said there was no doubt that the boys had polio.

Mr Qambrani, the father of one of the affected boys, complained that health department officials had not visited the area to administer polio drops to children. He alleged that the officials were hiding polio cases.

Meanwhile, a group of people held a protest demonstration here against the authorities for not providing polio drops to children in the district.
