KARACHI, Nov 7: A young man died when he was hit by a stray bullet near Al Noor Society, Gulberg Town on Sunday evening.

Police said that Kashif Rehan, 22, was heading to attend an Iftar party at his friend's place in North Karachi. When his car (ACY-114) reached near Mazia Square, he was struck by a stray bullet.

SHO Samnabad Ghulam Fareed told Dawn that the bullet penetrated through the left back door of the car and struck Rehan, who was driving the car. He was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The SHO suspected that it was some sort of cross firing to which Rehan fell victim. He was a resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar's Block 10-A. His elder brother was an activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement, he added.

Police retaliated as a result of which one of the suspects, Amir, was wounded. The other suspect, Hasan Iqbal, was also apprehended. Police claimed recovery of two TT pistols from their possession.
