LARKANA, Nov 6: The decision of deploying Rangers at the Chandka Medical College, made by its academic council, was withdrawn in a tripartite meeting held here on Saturday.

The meeting was attended by the CMC academic council's executive members including the principal, the leaders of the students' alliance and the district nazim and DCO.

However, it was also decided that if normalcy did not return to the college in three months, Rangers would be deployed there to control the situation.

At the meeting, CMC Principal Noor Ahmed Channa, Vice-Principal Assadullah Mahar and three professors represented the academic council and Amjad Mastoi and othersrepresented the students. Nazim Khursheed Ahmed Junejo and DCO Abdul Razaq Qureshi, playing a reconciliatory role, heard both the parties who traded charges against each other.

The students' leaders complained of insufficient facilities at hostels and shortage of teachers, books and equipment at the college.

The academic council members alleged that the students threatened teachers to get their examination results improved, misbehaving with professorsand did not return books borrowed from library.

After the successful talks, the nazim/DCO, the academic council members and students' leaders signed an 18-point agreement. According to it, show-cause notices issued to students would be kept in abeyance for three months. The district government and college administration will approach the provincial government for getting the college problems resolved.

The students apologized to the professors and both the parties agreed to cooperate with each other for maintaining peaceful academic atmosphere.
