Published November 3, 2004

KOHAT, Nov 2: The Pakistan Railway has announced that it will start economy class train service between Kohat and Karachi from Nov 15.

The station master told Dawn on Tuesday that the repair work on more than a century-old railway track was in its final stages and would be ready well before Nov 15. The journey from Kohat to Karachi would take 48 hours, he further informed.

He said that booking of seats would be done at Kohat Railway Station. The fare for a seat had been fixed at Rs675 and with berth Rs750. The train will leave Kohat at 8am for Karachi daily.

Kohat will become the second city after Peshawar in NWFP from where direct train service between Karachi and Kohat will operate. It was a long standing demand of the people, especially the business community belonging to the southern region of the province.
