KARACHI, Oct 24: At least 170 patients have been treated at Liaquat National Hospital through lethropter during the last three months.

This was stated by Dr Ishrat Saleem, the head of LNH's urology department, at a seminar on "Recent advances in treatment of renal stone diseases" held at the hospital premises. Consultant nephrologists Dr Absar Ali, Dr Barakzai, Dr Abdul Jabbar and Dr Adnan also addressed at the seminar.

The experts explained the procedure and said that through lethropter the kidney stone was crushed to the size which could pass through urine. Due to this procedure, the patients were not needed to stay at the hospital, as the procedure was performed within two or three hours, they added.

The doctors advised the people that if a stone was developed in kidney, it should be removed as soon as possible, otherwise, it may cause renal failure and then kidney transplant would be the only solution, which was very costly and complicated. They also advised to increase water consumption particularly during the hot days. -APP
