RAHIM YAR KHAN, Oct 23: Scores of people took out a protest rally against the police for its failure to arrest the accused who opened indiscriminate fire and wounded several people.

Led by Lohar Market Committee president Haji Abdul Hameed, the protesters started the rally from Lohar Market and ended at the DPO office. The protesters carried banners and shouted slogans against the police.

They demanded immediate arrests of the accused besides stern action against them. DPO Tariq Hanif assured the protesters that a case had been registered against Akram, Aslam, Riaz, Saifullah, Abdul Rauf, Javaid and their arrests would be made soon.

He also said that the constable involved in this incident had been suspended. The protesters dispersed peacefully after the assurance given by the DPO.

At least seven people, including a child, had sustained injuries when six armed men opened fire during election of Zakat committee in Norywalee on Friday. However, the police had not arrested the accused due to their political influence.
