HYDERABAD, Oct 16: College teachers boycotted classes throughout Sindh for the second consecutive day on Saturday, according to Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association spokesman Professor Anwar Sagar.

He said that more than 100 protest meetings were held in different colleges of the province.

In Hyderabad, SPLA secretary-general Professor Agha Khalid Pathan, regional president Sher Khan Salero and other leaders spoke at the meetings.

They condemned misbehaviour of police with the college teachers in D.J. Science College, Karachi, on Thursday and said that the teachers of Sindh had been forced to take to the streets.

They said that a college teacher of Sindh had to wait for 15 years for promotion whereas in Punjab, college teachers were regularly given promotions. They added that librarians and directors of physical education had not been given promotion for 20 years in Sindh.

They, however, said that due to struggle of the college teachers, 187 teachers of Sindh had been given promotions under the four-tier formula on Friday.

They expressed the hope that promotion orders of the remaining 800 teachers would also be issued without further delay.

They said that the Sindh teachers were also denied medical facilities.

They said that a SPLA committee would hold a meeting in Karachi on October 18 to evolve future strategy.

Our Sanghar correspondent adds: The college teachers continued their protest and boycotted classed and other academic activities.

A black flag was hoisted on the building of the Government Syed Sibghatullah Shah Shaheed Degree College where a meeting of college teachers was held.

They vowed to continue struggle till the acceptance of their demands and called for an inquiry into the maltreatment of the teachers in Karachi and suspension of TPO Dr Sanaullah Abbasi.
