SUKKUR, Aug 28: Tension prevailed in several towns and villages of the Ghotki district on Saturday following the bloody clash between Mahar and Pitafi clans in which three people were killed.

Business activities in Khanpur Mahar, Shahpur, Sarhad and other areas remained suspended and the people preferred to remain at homes.

Three cases were registered at the Khanpur Mahar police station against some 60 persons following the murder of Jaffer Mahar and Murad Mahar and a seven-year-old boy, Nazar Pitafi.

On Friday, Sardar Ahmed Ali Pitafi handed over two main accused, Mehram Pitafi and Razzaq Pitafi, who allegedly were involved in the killing of two Mahar clansmen, to the police.

Meanwhile, a meeting of the Mahar elders in Mirpur Mathelo appealed to all clansmen not to react as the Pitafi Sardar was cooperating to resolve the dispute.

DPO Ghotki Aftab Halepoto said the influential people behind the conspiracy would be taken to the task. He made it clear that no Jirga would be allowed as it could create the law and order situation. He said the real culprits survive after the Jirga verdict and they again indulge themselves in criminal activities.

KILLED: A man, Qudratullah, son of Hameed Golo, 25, was gunned down in Kandhkot on Saturday.

The motive behind the murder was said to be karo-kari.

No case was registered till the filing of this report.
