PESHAWAR,July31: Justice Nasirul Mulk was sworn in by NWFPGovernor Iftikhar Hussain Shah as the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court at a ceremony at the Governor's House here on Saturday.

Justice Nasirul Mulk became the first chief justice of the Peshawar High Court who was administered oath under the 1973 Constitution in contrast to the previous chief justice, who was sworn in under the PCO in 2002.

His appointment follows the elevation of the former PHC chief justice as a judge of the Supreme Court.

Chief minister Akram Khan Durrani was among those who attended the ceremony, which was also attended by high court judges, members of the judiciary, lawyers and government officials.

Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk has served as the NWFP's advocate-general besides holding the office of president of the Peshawar High Court Bar Association.

Meanwhile, the NWFP chief minister called on the NWFP governor here at the Governor's House.

The newly-appointed chief justice of the Peshawar High Court, Justice Nasirul Mulk also called on the governor. They remained with the governor for some time and discussed various matters of public interest.
