PESHAWAR, June 27: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has conditionally lifted restrictions imposed under the Frontier Crimes Regulations on the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe of South Waziristan Agency for a 10-day period on Sunday morning.

He said that if the tribe produced tangible results in dealing with the issue of foreign elements during this period, the restrictions could be lifted for an indefinite period.

The decision came into force from Sunday morning and during the period the respective tribe would be allowed to transport its indigenous agriculture production for sale out of the agency, he said.

The governor announced the decision during a meeting with a tribal delegation of the Ahmadzai Wazir which called on him at the Governor's House late on Saturday evening.

The delegation had come to request the governor to lift the economic blockade against the tribe, an official handout said. The tribal elders gave an assurance that from now onward they would neither shelter foreign elements nor would they cooperate with them in any manner.

The governor said the government would not tolerate any sort of double game by the Ahmadzai Wazir tribe.

He said that the government still adhered to its promise that if the tribal elders provided a guarantee of good conduct for the foreign elements under its jurisdiction and registered themselves they would be allowed to stay with their respective guarantors.

He said that the government had been repeatedly saying that the presence of these foreign elements on Pakistan's soil was against the interest of the country, but the tribesmen did not pay any heed.

He said that the government had prepared a comprehensive development plan for the South Waziristan Agency but that could only be implemented when the atmosphere was conducive for the purpose.

The governor also mentioned the unprecedented allocations under the FATA ADP, saying that during the coming financial year every tribal agency would get as much as half a billion rupees for development.
