SIALKOT, April 3: The Sialkot district Nazim has said that education committees will be set up at union council level for the promotion of the sector.

Mian Naeem Javed told newsmen at his office here on Saturday that the committees would comprise retired and serving educationists.

He said the Punjab government had launched projects worth Rs300 million for the promotion of education in the district.

He said the district government would provide furniture to primary schools in rural areas by spending Rs6.3 million.

Mian Naeem said the government had launched projects for providing facilities in colleges at a cost of Rs80 million. These included construction of hostels in women's colleges.

He said a women's college would be started in Kapurwali village on the orders of chief minister.

Repolling: The district returning officer, district and sessions judge Badruzzaman Chattha, has ordered repolling at four polling stations in the Hundal union council on April 7.

During bypolls on March 28, the polling was stopped at Hundal, Bhaneywali, Partanwali and Kot Kora polling stations after a shooting incident in which two people were injured.

The returning officer had withheld the results of these four polling stations besides declaring Variyo family-backed candidate Faridullah Khan successful against PPP and Tahir Hundali group-backed candidate Ajmal Ejaz.

JUDGE'S ORDER: Additional district and sessions judge Nasir Ahmad Awan has ordered the Cantonment police to register a case against four policemen for keeping a youth in illegal custody.

Sucheetgarh police check post's in-charge SI Rana Zulfiqar, Muharrar Shahbaz, ex-ASI Zafar Ahmad and constable Mohammad Boota had kept Aslam of Kullo Piyara in illegal detention.

Meanwhile, ADSJ Mohammad Yaar Willana has issued a contempt notice to Saddar SHO sub-inspector Sabir Chattha for not obeying the court orders regarding registration of a case against kidnappers of a youth, Ayaz Butt.

The judge also ordered the SHO to appear before the court on April 7.
