SUKKUR March 13: Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar laid the foundation of the Ghotki Cadet College near Sarhad village on the National Highway on Friday.
Speaking on the occasion, he claimed the law and order situation in Sindh had improved, Karachi Stock Exchange was booming, hundreds of sacked employees had been reinstated in services and standard of education had improved.
Mr Mahar said 35,000 job opportunities would be created and gas facility would be provided to Ubauro, Khangarh and Khanpur Mahar towns soon.
He announced that five sport complexes, one each in five taluka headquarters, would be established in Ghotki district. He said work on 400-kilometre-long roads in the Ghotki had been completed and under-construction 250km roads would soon be completed.
The chief minister further said the government was giving special attention to education and establishment of the cadet college was a part of that scheme.
Praising President Gen Pervez Musharraf, Mr Mahar said that he had bailed out the country of the crisis it was facing.
Earlier, Ghotki DCO Hidayatullah Rajpar, briefing Mr Mahar on the college project, said the college would be established on 264 acres of land and the project would be completed in two years at an estimated cost of Rs168.6 million.
Jam Faiz Mohammad Lakhan and Syed Asghar Ali Shah Gilani, Nazims of Umer Daho and Ghotki-I union councils, respectively, also spoke on the occasion.
KIDNAPPING: Talking to a delegation of journalists at the Rohri railway station, the chief minister directed the Sukkur AIG and DIG to ensure the recovery of kidnapped newsman Shahbaz Khan Pathan and his friend Naveed Mangi in two days.
He expressed resentment over police failure to recover the hostages despite the lapse of one week since their kidnapping and said the persons involved in the kidnapping should be arrested irrespective of their influence.
DIPLOMAT: District Nazim Syed Nasir Hussain Shah briefed British Deputy High Commissioner Hamish Daniel about the devolution plan at circuit house here on Saturday.
Mr Shah stated that the supply of drinking water and improvement of sewerage system were the major problems faced by the district government.
He said the district government strived hard for the provision of quality education and promotion of literacy among women in the area.
The Nazim said a mother and child health care centre had been established in desert taluka of Salehpat.
Mr Shah lauded the efforts of President Gen Pervez Musharraf for the socio-economic development of the country.
