KARACHI, April 23: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, inaugurated the ‘Bab-i-Khyber’ at Banaras Chowk on Friday night. Speaking on the occasion, he described the exemplary development works carried out in the city the result of collective efforts of the city government, towns and UC administrations.

He said the city government was serving the people of Karachi above its basic responsibilities. Even works, which were not the responsibility of the city government, were performed in the large interests of citizens and the city, he said.

In Karachi, Mr Niamat said roads were being constructed on international ASHTO standards and no damage had been caused to them during rains.

He referred to the Rashid Minhas, Ibrahim Rehmatoola, Shah Waliullah, Ibn-i-Sina and other roads, and said these remained unharmed even in rains, while roads constructed before the city government had suffered damages.

He said the city government carried out all works by adhering to the principles of honesty, trust and transparency.

Mr Naimat said the city government had executed many works not implemented anywhere in the country, and this included the provision of development funds to UCs at Rs3.4 million in the first year and Rs6.4 million each in the second and third years, so they could implement development schemes in their respective areas.

The nazim said all promises made by him during his three and a half years in office had been fulfilled. — APP
