Mr. Durrani said originally the project cost is estimated at Rs 1.8 billion, out of which Rs one billion would be spent on track conversion in the first phase for the start of train service while the second phase will involve repair and renovation of buildings, water supply etc.

He said it is being considered to have a station at Zero point between Khokhrapar and Monabo where immigration and custom formalities would be carried out.

“Work on laying of railway track between Chaman and Spin Boldak will start within a month for which Ministry of Finance is releasing Rs 8 million for initial expenditure,” said Mr Durrani, adding the 13-km long route would cost Rs 417 million.
