KARACHI, April 5: PIA and PTCL face each other in the pick of third round matches of the Patron’s Cup one-day cricket tournament at the UBL Sports Complex on Wednesday.

PIA, currently Pool ‘A’ leaders on net run-rate, scored convincing wins against Allied Bank and Wapda. PTCL also impressed in their two outings in Hyderabad and could spring a surprise against an experienced outfit.

Meanwhile, the Pool ‘B’ pacesetters Pakistan Customs will be searching for a third straight victory when they meet Habib Bank in Peshawar. On Monday, Customs sent DHA on a leather chase as they posted a national record total of 395 in Sialkot.

In the same match, Customs’ opener Mohammad Ali Niazi batted his way into the record books by scoring 207 off 146 balls – the first-ever double century in a national one-day competition in this country.

Wednesday’s fixtures:

Pool ‘A’: PIA v PTCL at UBL Sports Complex (Karachi); Wapda v ZTBL at National Stadium (Karachi); Allied Bank v KPT at Niaz Stadium (Hyderabad).

Pool ‘B’: Habib Bank v Pakistan Customs at Arbab Niaz Stadium (Peshawar); National Bank v DHA at Jinnah Stadium (Sialkot); KRL v Sui Gas at Iqbal Stadium (Faisalabad).
