GUJRANWALA, April 5: The Punjab Chief Minister’s Inspection Team (CMIT) reached the city on Tuesday and heard senior officials regarding the marathon disruption. Sources said the three-member team headed by Brig Arslan recorded the statements of DCO Fazeel Asghar, DPO Dr Arif Mushtaq and other officials. It would hear more officials on Wednesday in an effort, what sources said, to fix responsibility of security lapse, if any.

RAIDS: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal says that police teams are raiding houses and seminaries in search of ‘suspects’ who allegedly disrupted a marathon on Sunday and caused damage to property.

The MMA leadership has meanwhile constituted a 17-member committee to collect evidence from victims who sustained injuries by the firing of police to get register cases against police officers concerned. The committee would hire the services of senior lawyers to pursue the cases at local anti-terrorism court.

Alliance leader and MNA Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari said that MMA would continue resisting un-Islamic culture and obscenity which was being promoted by the government in the name of liberalism.

Addressing a meeting of workers here on Tuesday, he said that a protest rally would be taken out in Gujranwala on Friday if the police and district administration did not withdraw the cases registered against them and released all activists, including MNA Qazi Hamidullah.
