HYDERABAD, April 4: The Government Secondary Teachers Association has lashed out at the chairman of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Hyderabad, for changing invigilators of class IX and X examinations. Speaking at a meeting held here on Monday, district office-bearers of the GSTA alleged that this had been done to please members of a political party which had resulted in huge losses to the board.

They observed that according to the board rules, external duties in examinations were to be performed by high school teachers on seniority-cum-rotation basis. They said according to the rules, senior teachers were appointed for supervising class IX and X examinations, scheduled to start from April 5. However, they alleged that to please workers of a political party, the duties of the external examiners were changed at the eleventh hour.

The meeting, presided over by Mohammad Safar Memon, alleged that the new external examiners were neither high school teachers nor were their names mentioned in the seniority list.

Condemning the attitude of the board chairman, it demanded that the illegal appointments of the external examiners should be cancelled forthwith.

It warned that if the appointments were not cancelled, the responsibility for consequences would rest with the chairman because teachers could resort to extreme measures to protect their rights. The board chairman could not be contacted.

SU: The registrar of the University of Sindh on Monday notified the final list of candidates contesting election for membership in the university syndicate.

The election for four seats of the syndicate will be held on April 12 and the official results would be announced on April 13. The registrar would be the election officer.

PROMOTION GRANTED: The Federal Ministry of Education through a notification issued on March 26 granted BPS-21 to Prof (Dr) Mohammad Iqbal Bhanghar, director of the National Centre of Excellence in Analytical Chemistry, University of Sindh, with effect from March 21.

LUMHS: The controller of examinations of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences on Monday announced changes in examinations format.

Passing marks of written examinations have been set as 60 per cent.

SPSC: The Sindh Public Service Commission, Hyderabad, has announced that in view of non-availability of vehicles on March 30 due to transporters’ strike, the pre-interview test for posts of lecturers in education, botany and mathematics in the education and literacy department will be held on April 14.

Meanwhile, the SPSC announced on Monday that test for posts of lecturers in Islamic culture, English, computer science, zoology and chemistry in the education and literacy department would be held on April 19 and 20 at the Government Noor Mohammad High School, Government High School-1, Government Girls’ Comprehensive Higher Secondary School and the commission’s head office on the Thandi Sarak.
