ABU DHABI, May 30: Major-Gen (retd) Salim Ullah, Pakistan’s ambassador to UAE, has reiterated his country’s desire for peace, cautioning that if India resorts to aggression, it be will given a befitting response.

He said this during an interview in news bulletin on Abu Dhabi Television on Saturday.

Describing as baseless the Indian allegations of Pakistan’s involvement in terrorist activities, Ambassador Salim Ullah repeated his country’s opposition to terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

He remarked that such attacks coincided with high-level visits to the region and that India had always rejected Pakistan’s offers to conduct an impartial inquiry into such incidents.

“As an important partner in the international coalition against terrorism, Pakistan has been discharging its obligations and will continue to do so.”

Referring to the troop deployment by India and the war rhetoric of its leadership, Salim Ullah said: “India is using the occasion to create anti-Pakistan hysteria to distract attention from the ongoing genocide of Muslims in Gujarat as well as other internal failures of BJP.”

He stated that Pakistan had been persistently endeavouring to bring down the level of tension and to engage in a comprehensive, serious and result-oriented dialogue with India on Kashmir and all other issues.

The envoy deplored Indian pre-conditions for resumption of talks, saying that it showed its lack of interest in a genuine dialogue process.

“The international community must take a serious note of Indian sabre-rattling and hostile measures and persuade India for a de-escalation and dialogue with Pakistan for a peaceful resolution of the core issue of Kashmir in order to bring lasting peace in a region, which threatens world stability.”—APP
