PESHAWAR, March 18: Four robbers snatched Rs3.2 million at gunpoint from a bank cashier in the cantonment area on Friday, eyewitnesses said. This is the biggest robbery in recent times in Peshawar. A cashier of Sonari Bank, Saleem Tarin, told reporters that four men armed with Kalashnikov had robbed him of cash on the main road in the Peshawar Cantonment, near busy shopping centre.

The crime is even more surprising since police has set up barricades to check all roads leading into Peshawar Saddar’s main shopping area to guard against car thefts. Mr Tarin said he had just come out of the Saddar Road branch of Sonari Bank with Rs5.2 million cash to hand over to two clients of the bank.
