NAWABSHAH, March 3: Number of accidents and robberies has decreased after highways were taken over by the Motorway Police.

Speaking at Darbar of the Motorway official in Sakrand on Wednesday, Motorways Police IG Ziaul Hassan claimed the police was the only department free from corruption and officials were working day and night to provide services and ensuring safety of passengers.

Motorways Police SP Hassan Soomro said the police foiled seven robberies on the N-5 during the last four months and nine MNAs and MPAs were fined for violating rules. He said the motorway police fined some 76,816 vehicles and an amount of Rs27.4 million was recovered. Mr Soomro said the police provided assistance to 15,935 passengers. The IG motorways gave awards to police officials.

ADVISER: Adviser to the Sindh chief minister, Ghulam Rasool Unnar, held an open kutchehry in Jam Sahib town on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said the government was giving more attention to redress public difficulties to solve the problems without any discrimination. He announced upgradation of girl's middle school as the high school and said work on a water supply scheme would start soon.

WALK: The education department organized a walk regarding flower show and science Mela here on Thursday. The walk led by the EDO education, Rafiq Siddiqui, and participated by school children and education officials. Flower show and science Mela will be held at the H.M. Khoja high school from March 5-8.

OMBUDMAN: The regional directorate for the Sindh ombudsman has announced a programme to hear people's complaints against the Sindh government.

The regional director will hold an open kutchehry on March 21 at the town committee office, Mehrabpur, town committee office, Kandiaro, at 12:30pm and town committee office, Bhirya Road, at 2:30pm. On March 22, at the town committee, Naushahro Feroze, town committee office, Moro, at 11:30am and town committee office, Daulatpur at 2pm.
