MARDAN, Feb 19: The NWFP People's Party Parliamentarians president (PPP) has said that a government plan to hold local bodies polls on non-party basis seems uncertain, however, the party was ready to contest them.

Speaking to this reporter here on Saturday, Rahimdad Khan said the party had power to make seat adjustment with any party in the country, but Ms Benazir had not given any clear indication about an alliance with the PML-N or with the government.

Mr Rahimdad disclosed that PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto had sent for him and Jehangir Badar to Dubai to discuss strategy, but a date of departure was yet to be decided.

Election, he said, was a political process and the PPP would contest it.He claimed that the vote bank of the party had strengthened and it would not repeat the past mistakes. The PPP was struggling for the restoration of the 73 constitution and freedom of the press, he said.

MEETING: The PPP has scheduled a public meeting at Toot Killey for Sunday.
