KARACHI, Feb 16: The Karachi Bus Owners' Association here on Wednesday endorsed a call for a two-day transport strike in the city from Feb 24.

A meeting of the Karachi Bus Owners' Association was held with Mohammad Rashid in the chair.

Karachi Transport Ittehad General Secretary Syed Irshad Hussain Khan briefed the meeting about the situation which has arisen due to oil price hike. The meeting expressed concern over failure of the oil companies to reduce oil prices on Feb 15 as demanded.

The meeting decided that a raise of Rs 2.60 per litre in prices of diesel in just two months was unacceptable. The transporters said that they could not ply buses by buying diesel at Rs 27.16 a litre.

The meeting demanded that the prices of oil be lowered to the level of Nov 30. It also demanded that the Oil Companies Advisory Committee be done away with and a mechanism be introduced that freezes the oil prices for one year. -PPI
