KARACHI, Oct 28: The University of Karachi has announced commencement of admission process in Honours at its 33 departments in the faculties of Science, Arts, Islamic Learning and Pharmacy for the academic year 2002.

The KU Admissions Committee chairman Dr Muhammad Ishaq told PPI on Sunday that admission process had also been initiated in Bachelor of Public Administration (BPA), Masters in Public Administration (MPA) and Masters of Special Education (MSE) at the Department of Special Education.

He said that candidates who had passed their prerequisite examinations till 1997 are eligible for the admissions in Honours programme, while the university has also reserved three per cent seats for candidates who passed their prerequisite examinations before 1997.

Candidates having 45 per cent marks in Intermediate can apply for admissions in all the departments, while for admissions to B. Pharmacy, the minimum requirement is 60 per cent marks in intermediate exams, he said and made it clear that 3rd division certificate holders are not eligible for the admissions.

Dr Ishaq informed that admissions in Departments of Business Administration, Chemical Technology, Computer Science, Public Administration and Visual Studies had been announced or would be announced separately by these departments. Pre-entry tests are mandatory for all applicants for these departments.

He told that admission forms along with prospectus would be available at authorized branches of the UBL from Oct 29 to Nov 10, on a payment of Rs300, which could be submitted back during these dates. List of successful candidates would be displayed at 3pm at the main Silver Jubilee gate on Dec 1.

For admissions to BPA and MPA, forms are available at the authorized branches of the UBL till Nov 8 for which an aptitude test would be held on Nov 11 and the final list of successful candidates would be displayed on Nov 20.

For admissions to Masters in Special Education, forms would be available at authorized branches of the UBL from Nov 1 to 15.

He said that admissions forms for Honours are available at UBL branches located at Nazimabad (Chowrangi), Bahadurabad, Malir Township (Near Tanki), New Karachi, University Road, near Baitul Mukarram Masjid, Hyderi, Hamid Square (Gulshan-i-Iqbal), Drigh Colony (Near A-1 Hospital), Landhi Industrial Area (Near Dawood Chowrangi), Binnori Town and Kharadar.

For admissions in Departments of Mass Communication and International Relations, admissions would be granted on the basis of merit as the KU has abolished pre-entry tests in these departments, he clarified.—PPI
