RAWALPINDI, Feb 13: An angry mob set a franchise company bus on fire and smashed more than seven others after one of the buses hit a motorbike killing one person and injuring another at Faizabad on Sunday evening.

Eyewitnesses said two men riding a motorcycle (RIV-4502) were going towards Faizabad on Murree Road when a Varan bus (IDS-7021) coming from Islamabad ran over them, killing one of them, identified as Habibur Rehman, and injuring the other. Police said a large number of angry people gathered on the scene and smashed some busses of the company and blocked the traffic.

When the chairperson of the company, Uzma Gul, was contacted, she blamed the police for failing to reach the spot on time. She said some people in two coasters had arrived on the scene and smashed at least 16 Varan buses with iron rods. She said SP Waqar Chohan, who had arrived on the spot all alone, kept on watching.

Superintendent of traffic police Sabir Ahmed confirmed that one person was killed and another injured in the accident, which provoked the people. He said there should be a "speed limit device" in the public transport to avoid such accidents.

The SP blamed the vehicle examining authorities for failing to apply the relevant rules on public transport. The Sadiqabad police have arrested the bus driver, Mohammad Ramzan, and registered a case against him.
